Agathon Léonard "Danseuse au Cothurne" Bisque Ceramic Sculpture
By Agathon Léonard, and titled "Danseuse au cothurne," this arresting bisque ceramic sculpture is from the artist's "Le jeu de l'écharpe" series. This particularly lovely figure is one of the "la danse"—or "the dance"—set, originally produced and cast by Sèvres, and presented by the artist at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle. The incredible texture of the dancer's rippling "fabric" robes brings her elegant movement to life, as her unique posture catches the eye.
