In the mid-to-late 1890s, when this artwork was created, René Lalique fully dedicated his creative powers to enamel, labor intensive jewels that reflected his sensitivity to nature’s forms and colors. It was at the end of this profoundly creative and innovative period, culminating in groundbreaking contributions to the 1901 Paris Exposition, that Lalique's Parisian colleagues called him the greatest artist to have worked in jewelry.
