It is important to remember when considering the incredible care that Louis Comfort Tiffany employed when creating the composition and technical aspect of this picture frame was the excitement around early photography that was culminating at the time. Though still expensive and reserved largely for the elite, the advent of the Kodak "Brownie," in 1900, made higher quality photography more accessible then ever before, and ignited a craze for having photographs in the home.
