In 1945, on Manhattan’s Madison Avenue, the doors opened to the flagship store of one of America’s greatest jewelry manufacturers: David Webb. David Webb is possibly best known for his enamel jewelry of animal themes, where frogs, zebras, giraffes, and other creatures look like they could jump off of the wearer’s cuffs or lapels. These pieces have been beloved by socialites and Hollywood for more than 60 years. David Webb believed that jewelry and gems should be treated as art, and the result was a look that established him as a groundbreaking jewelry house and the destination for statement jewelry. David Webb jewelry has been closely associated with socialites and movie stars since its inception; style mavens like the Duchess of Windsor, Jacqueline Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, and Diana Vreeland were among his loyal customers. Tragically, David Webb died in 1975, but not before leaving an incredibly rich and diverse archive of bold, beautiful, and intricate jewelry to be preserved for generations to come. To this day, his vision and legacy are carefully preserved in the Manhattan atelier bearing his name.
