This bangle's gem-set top references the Indian bazuband, a tapering gem-set form designed to adorn the upper arm. Its origins lie in imperial Deccan and Mughal jewelry traditions. Cartier sold such antique Indian jewels in its Paris, London and New York salons in the 1930s, and their designers drew inspiration from handling them.
