Diamond Fan-Shaped Ribbon Clip Earrings

$12,500

Created in the 1950s, these clip earrings are composed of platinum and approximately 2.74 carats of diamonds.  Each earring centers a round-cut diamond among radiating diamond baguettes and a fan-shaped high relief surround of ruffled ribbon edged by round-cut diamonds. With their bright palette of polished platinum and brilliant diamonds, these playful, shapely fans hug the ear to create a gleaming frame for the eyes and face.

Invented in the 1930s in France, earclips were, according to jewelry historian Amanda Triossi, “one of the most important innovations in the history of earrings.” In the 1940s and 1950s compact yet high relief earclips were still a favorite form, beloved for their whimsical references to the sculpted fabrics, ribbons and ruffles of the New Look in couture.
