These massive Retro bracelets of the 1940s represented a new spirit of inventiveness. Starting in the 1930s, jewelers had derived novel motifs and designs from industrial and military sources - tank tracks, gas pipe, bicycle and roller chains, and conveyor belts, the beveled edges of steel plates and sprockets, playing with the forms and voids these mechanical innovations created. This experimentation resulted in a new body of bracelets that convey the spirit of modernity, viewed through the lens of art. Vicenza is one of Italy's most prominent historical centers for excellence in the goldsmith's art.
