$6,500
Created in the 1950s, these diamond clip earrings are set in platinum. The stylized forms set throughout with round brilliant-cut diamonds are designed as a floral spray on delicate swirling filaments, joining upward sweeping stems. Clips, according to the scholar Amanda Triossi, were "one of the most important innovations in the history of earrings." They permitted women to enjoy wearing ear ornaments without the suffering of having them pierced with a needle, and concentrated ornament on the earlobe. The novel form, followsing the curve of the ear, created an entirely new aesthetic. These 1950s earclips are an evolution of the original 1930s Parisian designs, pioneered by Belperron and Boucheron, among others.
