Tiffany Studios New York "Three-Light-Lily" Piano Lamp

This Tiffany Studios New York "Three Light Lily" was designed to be placed on the top of pianos to illuminate sheet music. The shades are gold favrile glass with pulled feather decoration suspended above a patinated bronze decorated "Artichoke" base. The delicate, undulating round form of the lily blossom's rim beautifully counterbalances the weight of the resolutely round artichoke base in this composition. These shades take the form of morning glories; entranced by their polychromatic brilliance and trumpet-like shape, and inspired by popularly distributed Japanese woodblock prints, Louis Comfort Tiffany made many water-color paintings of morning glories and meditated on them frequently.
