Tiffany & Co. Rubellite and Tanzanite "Fireworks" Pendant Brooch

$45,000
Dating from circa 1993, this "Fireworks" brooch by Tiffany & Co. is set with a rubellite tourmaline, tanzanites, and diamonds, mounted in 18K gold and platinum. The brooch is designed as a bombé-form exploding firework star centering a large rubellite framed by cascades of tanzanite and diamond sparkles. The unusual harmony of rich and brilliant hues combined with high sculptural relief make this signature Tiffany jewel particularly striking and attractive.

Early Tiffany & Co. "Fireworks" brooches such as this were an opportunity for the firm to showcase novel colored stones whose discovery in East Africa it had helped to popularize in the 1980s. Highly dichroic, tanzanite, named by Tiffany for the nation where it was first discovered, ranges in hue from violet to blue to indigo, and here its violet tones emphasize this element of the rubellite's rich slightly purplish pink. The earlier versions of Fireworks brooches were particularly large in scale.
