Tiffany Studios New York "Venetian" Desk Lamp

This Tiffany Studios New York "Venetian" leaded glass and bronze desk lamp features a geometric and floral motif in gold, blue, red, and green hues. Reminiscent of the colored glass windows in Gothic cathedrals, this Tiffany Studios New York shade features three rows of graduated medallions framed in deep golden-colored glass. The bottom segment of wonderful, oblong vignettes has a unique green stylized tree with red accent featured in each on a blue ground. The middle tier, which features coin shaped frames, has golden and green geometric cross like motifs, while the top row features green stylized leaves, also on a blue ground. The shade sits on a gilt bronze base decorated with open scrolling work, dark green glass cabochons and a series of ermine {symbolic of Venetian nobility} on the lower edge.

Walter Thompson price list of 1906, Tiffany Studios New York "Venetian" lamps, when first offered for sale, had a list price of $250, while the "Wisteria" lamps were priced at $400, giving an indication of the importance of this design style.
