This luscious ring style was named after the splendid French dessert by the same name, "bombé." By the early 20th century, chefs had raised these frosted, molded hemispheres of layered ice cream to architectural heights, so that the “crenelated, betowered, beswirled, and colonnaded creations” earned themselves a permanent place in the French palette and imagination.
