Tiffany Studios New York "Pulled Feather" Vase
$19,500
This monumental Tiffany Studios Favrile vase is composed of a gold iridescent shoulder, a trilobed pulled feather body, and a bulbous foot. The vase features an olive green and cobalt blue pulled-feather decoration on an iridescent gold ground, each feather-pull elegantly mimicking the natural veining and variation of hues that would be found on a young leaf or stem. The contrast between the opaque gold shoulder and transparent green body creates an alluringly luminous appearance.

Trilobed vases were a hallmark of Chinese Qianlong period (1735-1796) ceramics. The trilobed technique was typically used on frutiform vases (e.g pomegranates and gourds.) As Tiffany was an avid collector of Chinese ceramics, it is evident that he translated their motifs into the vernacular of Art Nouveau.
